MRS. PATRICIA SLAUGHTER BROWN

A graveside service for Mrs. Patricia Slaughter Brown will be held 2 PM Saturday, January 14, 2023 at Sandtown UMC in Philadelphia, MS. Flowers may be sent to John Stephens Chapel Funeral Home. Patricia Slaughter Brown was born on 10/1/49 to Erskine and Helen (McDonald) Slaughter. She grew up around the country following her father’s military career. She married William (Scotty) Brown Jr in 1975 in Charleston, SC and in 1985 after many years of trying, she was blessed with her son William (Scotty) Brown III in 1985 and her daughter Margaret T. Brown in 1986. She loved being a mother and doted on both of her children. Patsy received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from The College of Charleston in Charleston, SC. Patsy had a decorated and accomplished career in Special Education both in South Carolina and in North Carolina. She won Teacher of the Year in 1999-2000. The toughest student cases in Onslow County were sent to her class and she took on the challenges with incredible grace, fortitude, and compassion. She was known for her patience, her quiet smile, her sweet laugh, her southern drawl, and her love for Jesus. She was also a homemaker in her children’s early years. She was a faithful member of Bible Baptist Church in Jacksonville, NC under Pastor Paul Johnston and Pastor Mike Cowell and served there as a Sunday School teacher. She accepted Christ as her Savior from the witness of her dear friend, Gretchen Fant in 1978. Her relationship with Jesus was a defining factor of her life and she credited everything in her life to the goodness of God. Patsy not only loved being a wife and mother, but she definitely loved being a Grandmother! She glowed with happiness whenever she was surrounded by her grandbabies and her love for them was radiant. Her sweet spirit was infectious and delightful. Patricia Slaughter Brown (73) of Jacksonville, NC and Philadelphia, MS went to be with her Lord while surrounded by her loving family on January 5, 2023 at Shadyside Care Center in Shadyside Ohio after battling Alzheimer’s disease. She was preceded in death by her father, Erskine Slaughter and her mother, Helen McDonald Slaughter. She leaves behind her husband, William (Scotty) Brown Jr., her son William (Scotty) Brown III (Margot), her daughter Margaret Brown, her sisters Margaret Kent and Ginny (Tommy) Williams, and her 4 grandchildren, Jane, Will, Annie, and Henry Brown.
